Case Study
Relocation of CCTV camera and singlemode splicing & testing, Farnborough Business Park, Hampshire

March 2015
During the development of a new building at Farnborough business park just next to the airport an existing CCTV camera position was in the way and required relocation.
The Construction civils team provided a new concrete base and the necessary underground ducts and the lifting capability to relocate the pole. Our scope was to provide the fibre splicing and cabling to support the move.
The singlemode Fibre optic cabling for all of the other cameras in the park actually ran through the camera base so it was required to fusion splice a new fibre optic external joint into the ring at a Footway chamber position. From this position we installed and connected a new 4 core single mode cable to the relocated camera position approximately 100m away.
Upon completion of the splicing some of the cameras would not come back up – our diagnostic OTDR equipment and inspection tools on site at this point became invaluable. We identified dirty connector faces at the security office Patch panels which were causing transmission & telemetry control issues, damaged ferrules at the Patch panels causing misalignment of the fibre cores and loss of connections, plus one media converter pair would not come back to life after the cutover, we stuck on site with the client and assisted in rectifying and troubleshooting until all issues were resolved.
